MY REVIEW

This book lives up to its hype. There are so many layers and depth wrapped in an apparent mundane reality that you are knocked out of kilter and ask yourself how is this possible but knowing that it is.

Isolation from society both physically and mentally is the basis of the story. The area around Snow Creek is wilderness and so attractive to people who wish to isolate themselves from society, some to a dangerous extent. Incidents are ignored and covered up to maintain the isolation.

Hiding a body to keep your privacy might not occur to most of us but this is where this story starts. The accidental discovery of the burnt out wreck brings detective Megan Carpenter on the track.

The investigation is at first straightforward but soon spirals outward. Nothing is as it seems. But Megan follows every track to discover the truth. The whole book is a twist so the ending is another surprise.

Detective Megan also starts to unravel her secret past with many parallels to the current case. We only go so far with this and at the end we are left to look forward to the next book.
